Filoxenia is the central aid organization of the Orthodox Archdiocese of Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. Their mission includes providing essential humanitarian aid (including aid to persecuted Christians in Africa), support for the sick, and community initiatives to help families, the elderly, and young people to thrive across the region. Filoxenia is the Central Aid Service of the Orthodox Archdiocese of Belgium (also serving NL and Luxembourg). It is a registered non-profit organization that provides practical support to vulnerable communities across the region. Their work focuses on:
– Humanitarian & Social Aid: support for elderly homes, prisons, orphanages, and disadvantaged families, including food, clothing, and essentials distribution.
– Pastoral & Crisis Support: visits and care for the sick, isolated, and those in challenging circumstances, both in institutions and at home.
– Education & Youth Initiatives: programs linked to youth, ecological responsibility, and community formation.
– Cultural & Community Programs: activities that strengthen community cohesion and social networks.
Commission Philanthropique « Asbl Filoxenia »
«Filoxenia» constitue le Service d’Entre-Aide Centrale de l’Archevêché de Belgique et Exarchat des Pays-Bas et du Luxembourg. Elle doit sa constitution en asbl (Numéro d’entreprise – BCE: BE072.89.36) à l’initiative de Son Éminence le Métropolite Athénagoras de Belgique dans le but de répondre aux nombreux défis mais aussi aux besoins croissants qui apparaissent dans l’Archevêché.
«Filoxenia», suivant la tradition chrétienne orthodoxe, souhaite tendre la main à ceux qui sont dans le besoin et pour ce faire, elle lance une invitation ouverte à tous les intéressés soucieux de contribuer à cet objectif.
Dans un esprit de parfaite collaboration et de solidarité avec les paroisses et leurs centres d’entre-aide de Belgique, des Pays-Bas et du Luxembourg, «Filoxenia» agira selon les 4 axes suivants:
a) Diaconie Philanthropique: visites et soutien des institutions tels des homes, des prisons, des orphelinats; distribution de matériels, de nourriture, de vêtements, etc.
b) Pastorale de la Santé: Pastorale auprès des malades en institution ou à domicile.
c) Écologie – Jeunesse – Éducation: Écologie Orthodoxe avec éducation environnementale, programmes du Patriarcat Œcuménique, etc.
d) Société et culture: Renforcement des réseaux sociaux, excursions pastorales et culturelles, événements caritatifs, etc.

“Filoxenia” is de Centrale Hulpdienst van het Aartsbisdom van België en Exarchaat van Nederland en Luxemburg. De dienst werd opgericht als een non-profit organisatie (ondernemingsnummer BCE: BE0721.896.36) op initiatief van Zijne Eminentie Metropoliet Athenagoras van België om te reageren op de vele uitdagingen maar ook op de groeiende behoeften die zich voordoen in de Aartsbisdom.

Naar de orthodox-christelijke traditie wil “Filoxenia” mensen in nood een hand toereiken. Om dit doen zendt ze een open uitnodiging uit aan allen die geïnteresseerd zijn om bij te dragen aan dit doel. In een geest van perfecte samenwerking en solidariteit met de parochies en hun centra voor wederzijdse hulp in België, Nederland en Luxemburg, zal “Filoxenia” handelen op basis van de volgende 4 assen:

a) Filantropische Diaconie: bezoeken en ondersteuning in instellingen zoals rusthuizen, gevangenissen, weeshuizen; verdeling van materialen, voedsel, kleding, enz.

b) Pastorale gezondheidszorg: Pastorale zorg voor patiënten in instellingen of thuis.

c) Ecologie – Jeugd – Onderwijs: orthodoxe ecologie met milieueducatie, programma’s van het Oecumenisch Patriarchaat, enz.

d) Maatschappij en cultuur: versterking van sociale netwerken, pastorale en culturele excursies, liefdadigheidsevenementen, enz.
